3D Printed Bionic Hand

WHAT?

Many people across the world suffer from hand disabilities where a partial section of their arm is missing. The aim of the bionic hand project was to create a low cost custom prosthetic that can be used by amputees as an effort to improve their quality of life.

HOW?

The bionic hand was designed using 3D modeling CAD software. The design of certain features were based off a parametric model which allowed easy customization of the features of the part.

The design features a 6-position lock and hold wrist mechanism, allowing the user to turn the hand and lock it every 60 degrees.

The figure on the left shows the finger section analysis with cable channels, grips, and hinge slots.

Integrated custom designed actuator  servo motors. The design maximizes the output motor torque and maintains full range of motion for the fingers.

Early prototype with custom modified servo motors as actuators.
