Flame Box for Gas Fields

The flame box was an internship project I had worked on at Exponent Technology Services. The main goal of the project was to take a pre-existing flame box (down) and redesign a lightweight version capable of being carried by a hexacopter UAV.

After examining the pre-existing flame box (right), a new one was designed (down) which was half the weight and 3 times as compact as the original one. The box was designed using sheet metal fabrication techniques and built using 1mm thick sheet metal.

The final product was built and tested as shown to the left. The electronics system consists of a long-range radio system for communication and remote triggering. A relay valve for the propane tank to control the flow of the fuel, high voltage modules to generate the spark, and a battery to power the whole system.
